A little bit of news.

Not much has happened since I wrote here last time. I have put everything back together and today I started the car for the first time this year. It started on the first try without a lot of protests. Drove around a bit and everything semms to be as it was. A, byt one small change, at least I think it has changed. The car does not allways send hot air on my feet. At least not today. Perhaps my testing of the flap motor did improve things.
Next thing on the agenda is to take the car to a AC-speciallist to se what can be done. I guess that if I want a functioning AC I will have to cash up for a new compressor. I have put a bit of money aside during the winter for that.
After that I will have to start to think about getting the car to MOT.

Well.
Now the car has visited an AC speciallist. The car got a functioning compressor and my wallet got a bit lighter...
Now we will have to see how long the AC works this time.
When I collected the car after the fix i did not get the hot feet problem I've had earlier. Now I only got cold air on my feet. I seems like the flap has stuck gain, but this time in "cold" mode. I guess I will have to investigate this further. Some other time.

Some answers to above questions are now known.
The AC worked for about 2 months this time... Sad
The compressor is running, but there is not much cool. Probably a leak somewhere. Time for another visit to an AC speciallist.
It´s personal now. I´m going to get that AC working. No matter what it takes.

The problem with the lower flap motor now seems to be that it moves, but slowly. At least that´s something.

News update.
A new leak-search revealed that the pipe from the compressor to the condensor was leaking.
Did buy a new one and got it installed yesterday. Now the system is leak-free they claim.
Let´s see how long it will last this time Rolling Eyes

And I have certanly not given up yet!

The car was checked up again today and the answer this time was as follows.
The pipe that goes from the compressor back to the bulkhead is in two parts on my car. The shorter bit, closest to the compressor, is the culprit this time.

Good about that:
-It is easy to get at, wich means it should be easy to replace.
-It seems to be availiable from jaguar classic spares.

Bad:
-If this does not work all reasonably easy to get at parts have been changed. Only the really nasty stuff left after this...

I will get it changed. Watch this space for further info Wink

Weird thing today.

The car went to the AC-workshop again. But they called back later to say that the reciever/dryer (think it is called that) that I had bought didn´t fit. Don´t understand why. I ordered it and the pipe directly from Jaguar Classic Spares.

According to the workshop the thread was wrong.

Were they able to modify it or do you have to get another one?

Well, the workshop said that with the aid of stickers on the old unit they somehow could track down a reciever/dryer that fitted.
Unfortunately the was a 2 week delivery time on it.
I am currently waiting...

And today I got a call from the workshop. A new reciever/dryer has arrived. I will bring the car to them tomorrow.
Let's hope and pray Wink
It would be perfect to get he AC going now when the season is over and I will tuck the car away for the winter...

The winter car (XJ40 Daimler) was started up last week. Everything seems to be as I left it. A quality product that car.

There seems to be a curse on this AC system. The new reciever/dryer did not fit either. Sad confused
The workshophad a new idea about it. Let see if three is a lucky number with dryers.

Well, believe it if you want to.

The workshop called again today. They have a new receiver-dryer unit now. They are sure it will fit this time.
Car is going in on wednesday.
Fingers crossed!?!

Well. At last the d***ed thing fitted this time.
As far as I can understand things, what has happened is this:
When the condenser was changed a while ago, something went wrong. I got a condenser meant for a earlier car.
It turns out that when the workshop got a reciever/dryer to an earlier XJS than mine, it fitted.

I do not know how I got the wrong part. I still have te paperwork from when I bought the new condenser, and that lists the correct condenser for my -94 car. confused

Well, It is of cource perfect to have tgheh AC going now when the car is going in the garage for a bit of hibernation uring the winter...

Well, I can be wery stubborn at times.
Hopefully the car will get i bit more TLC soon. The front brake discs are not as they should be, as an example. I have vibrations during braking.
We will have to see what the furure might bring. Risk is not small that it will be expensive Rolling Eyes

Today probably saw the last outing for this year.
The car got a few pints of new oil and a new oilfilter.
All is well for now. Cool

Hello!!!!!

Not much has happened here. The same with my car during the winter. For some strange reason the faults don´t fix themselves during the dark months.

Started the car two weeks ago. No problem there. Drove the car to my trusted mechanic last friday for smoe well needed TLC.
Warped discs in the front as an example. We will have to wait and see where that goes.
I will comfort myself with my newly accuired XJ81 (Daimler Double Six -94). Actually bought it from above mentioned mechanic. A great car.
